Blizzard’s official Midnight housing overview says housing has no lottery, onerous upkeep, or high purchase requirement. Houses and housing rewards are shared across your Warband.

Players can have an Alliance house in Founder’s Point and a Horde house in Razorwind Shores. Friends and guildmates can visit across faction lines with minimal restrictions.

The important shift is this: the house is an account-wide creative project. Your main does not need to personally earn every piece, and your alts do not start from zero.

Choose based on where you want people to gather, not which backdrop looks perfect in one screenshot.

Ask:

• Are your regular visitors mostly guildmates, close friends, or both?
• Do you want the Alliance or Horde neighborhood atmosphere?
• Will the house be a personal showcase or a recurring group hangout?
• Which exterior style supports the rooms you want to build?

Build Your First WoW Housing Room

Start with structure. Tiny props cannot rescue a room with no focal point, no walkway, and six competing themes.

Step one: set the entrance view

Stand where a visitor arrives. Place one large anchor: a fireplace, table, trophy wall, garden feature, or architectural frame.

Step two: protect movement

Walk from the entrance to every important object. If you clip through furniture or lose the route, move the large pieces before adding details.

Step three: give the room one job

A trophy hall, alchemy workshop, guild lounge, and quiet bedroom can all exist in the same house. They do not need to exist in the same room.

Step four: add light and color

Use a limited palette and repeat it. Blizzard’s housing tools support Basic and Advanced modes, resizing, placement control, dyes for selected items, and exterior customization.

I believe the best first room is small enough to finish. A completed tavern corner gives you momentum. An empty palace gives you guilt.

Collect WoW Housing Décor With a Plan

Blizzard’s décor reward guide says decorations come from quests, achievements, professions, vendors, reputations, and other activities across WoW. When a one-time source awards décor, extra copies are often available later through a vendor and relevant currency.

Build a target list before farming:

• Three large anchor pieces.
• Two lighting families.
• One wall-detail family.
• One small-prop family for shelves or tables.

Then assign each item to a room. If it has no destination, it is collection progress—not an urgent farm.

Use old content as a date night with Azeroth. Pick one décor target, run the source together, then place it before logging off. The item becomes a memory instead of another icon in storage.

Use Blueprints, Pet Beds, and Endeavors

The Curse of Ula’tek update added live housing tools that change how you should build. Blizzard’s August update notes list Blueprints that can be saved, exported, and imported, Pet Beds that welcome pets into the home, and four new Endeavors.

Use Blueprints as milestones:

1. Save the empty-room shell.
2. Save the finished first version.
3. Export the layout before a major rebuild.
4. Import the older plan if the experiment does not work.

Name Blueprints by room and version. “Guild lounge — v2 lighting” is useful. “House final FINAL 3” is how you lose the version you loved.

Pet Beds work best as part of a scene. Build around the pet instead of dropping the bed into a random corner. Endeavors give the neighborhood a shared reason to return, so treat them as recurring community projects rather than solo chores.

Turn WoW Housing Into a Group Project

Housing is one of the rare WoW systems where the goal can be “make something cool and hang out.” Protect that energy with a short project.

Session one: theme and shell

Tour both décor collections. Agree on one room, one palette, and one focal point. Build the large shapes.

Session two: targeted farm

Choose two or three missing items and run their sources. Return home before the session ends and place them.

Session three: polish and host

Fix lighting, clear the walkways, save a Blueprint, then invite friends or neighbors. End by choosing the next room—not by promising to finish the entire estate someday.

Fix the Three Housing Problems That Make Rooms Feel Wrong

Most unfinished rooms do not need more décor. They need editing.

Problem one: every wall wants attention

Choose one focal wall or central object. Let the other surfaces support it with smaller shapes and repeated colors. If every corner is shouting, visitors do not know where to look.

Problem two: the scale keeps changing

Advanced placement lets you resize objects, but freedom can wreck proportion fast. Compare chairs to tables, lights to ceilings, and props to the character model before detailing the room.

Walk through in normal camera distance. A build that only works from a carefully staged screenshot will feel awkward during an actual visit.

Problem three: the collection replaces the theme

Owning a rare piece does not mean it belongs in every room. Build small displays for outliers and keep the main room’s palette intact.

⚡ Pro Tip: Remove five objects before adding five more. Empty space is part of the composition, especially around a strong centerpiece.

Host a Neighborhood Night People Will Attend

Give the visit a purpose and an end time. “Come tour houses sometime” disappears into chat. “Three-house tour, Thursday at 7 PT, 45 minutes” is a plan.

Try this structure:

1. Five-minute welcome in the host’s main room.
2. Ten minutes per house with one question for the builder.
3. A group vote on the next shared décor farm or Endeavor.
4. A screenshot and a scheduled follow-up before everyone leaves.

Keep feedback generous and specific. “The entrance frames the trophy wall well” helps. Redesigning somebody else’s house during their tour does not.

If a guest can interact with or move anything, confirm the permission before the event. Use the minimum access needed and remove temporary access afterward. The build should stay under the owner’s control.
