Last Updated: August 2026 — WoW Midnight Patch 12.1, Season 2
This WoW raid guide is for the hour before your Venomous Abyss run—not the pull-by-pull lecture nobody remembers after the ready check. You need the unlock schedule, the wing order, the entry floor, and a short team plan that survives contact with eight new bosses.
The Venomous Abyss opened on August 18 as the centerpiece of Midnight Season 2. Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and Raid Finder Wing 1 are live. More LFR wings roll out weekly, so what you can queue for depends on the reset date.
WoW Raid Guide: Venomous Abyss Overview
Blizzard’s official Venomous Abyss overview confirms the core details:
- Location: The Coiled Isle
- Level: 90
- Bosses: eight
- Difficulties: Story, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic
- Raid Finder minimum item level: 273
- Final boss: Ula’tek
The raid arrived with the Curse of Ula’tek content update, identified as Midnight Patch 12.1. Live hotfixes can change tuning after publication, so use the in-game Adventure Guide for current ability text before the pull.
Venomous Abyss Unlock Schedule
The release is staggered for Raid Finder and Story Mode even though organized difficulties opened together.

- Week of August 18: Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and Raid Finder Wing 1
- Week of August 25: Raid Finder Wing 2 and Story Mode
- Week of September 1: Raid Finder Wing 3
- Week of September 8: Raid Finder Wing 4
Blizzard’s Midnight Season 2 schedule also confirms that Mythic+ Season 2 and the new Great Vault reward cycle began alongside the raid on August 18.
If you’re reading this before your region’s August 25 reset, Wing 2 and Story Mode are next—not live early because another region has completed maintenance.
The Eight Venomous Abyss Bosses in Order
The raid’s four Raid Finder wings each contain two encounters.

Wing 1: The Soulcoilers
- Nek’zali the Soulcoiler
- The Twin Fangs
Wing 2: The Essence of Venom
- Entombed Sentinels
- Vashnik the Malignant
Wing 3: The Serpent Warren
- The Lost Explorers
- Sszorak
Wing 4: The Tomb of Ula’tek
- The Coiled Altar
- Ula’tek
Open the guide for the correct wing before queueing. “I watched a Venomous Abyss video” is not useful if it covered bosses seven and eight while your group is pulling Nek’zali.
Raid Finder Ready vs Raid Ready
Item level 273 is the official Raid Finder minimum. Treat that as the queue floor, not proof that the character is prepared.

Gear
Equip intentional upgrades, repair, and clear your bags before the queue pops. Patch 12.1 Season 2 also makes Mythic 0 a practical preparation route; Blizzard lists its current drops at item level 292 in the Season 2 details.
Mechanics
Read the in-game Adventure Guide for your role. Don’t memorize every paragraph. Know your personal responsibility, your defensive timing, and the mechanic most likely to wipe the raid.
Consumables and interface
Bring the consumables appropriate to your difficulty and make sure critical boss alerts are visible without covering your character. A perfect addon layout copied five minutes before raid is worse than a simple interface you understand.
Group expectations
Confirm difficulty, wing or boss target, voice requirement, loot expectations, and planned end time. If those are unclear, fix them before the first pull.
A 20-Minute Venomous Abyss Prep Block
You do not need a three-hour study session before LFR or a first Normal learning run. Use 20 focused minutes.
Minutes 0–5: character check
Repair, equip upgrades, restock, and verify talents. Put your interrupt and defensive where your hands expect them.
Minutes 5–10: role check
Read the Adventure Guide for the exact wing. Write down one movement mechanic, one stop-damage or add priority, and one defensive cue.
Minutes 10–15: group check
Confirm who is calling pulls, major movement, and resets. Tanks should agree on swaps; healers should avoid stacking every major cooldown on the same event.
Minutes 15–20: first-pull plan
Set the opening positions, countdown, and one wipe recovery rule. Then pull. More talking won’t help until the group creates evidence.
Five Raid Calls That Stay Clear Under Pressure
Long explanations collapse when the screen fills with effects. Say the action first.

- Pull: starts the countdown and opener plan.
- Move: names the safe side or stack point.
- Stop: means stop damage or land the interrupt now.
- Save: holds a defensive or cooldown for the next event.
- Reset: ends debate, releases, repairs, and changes one thing.
I believe “change one thing” is the most valuable raid rule. After a wipe, identify the cause with evidence, assign one fix, and pull again. Five people delivering five theories creates noise, not progress.
Finding a Venomous Abyss Group
Raid Finder is the cleanest entry for seeing each wing as it unlocks. Normal and above require a premade or organized group, which means your listing and expectations matter.
When joining a premade, confirm:
- The exact difficulty and boss target
- Whether it’s learning, completion, farm, or progression
- Required voice and schedule
- Current lockout expectations
- How many pulls the group plans to give the target
Our WoW LFG guide gives you a listing template and a three-run teammate trial. If you want someone dependable for a defined raid-prep or dungeon session, find a World of Warcraft teammate on Tapin.
Keep account boundaries simple: play together on separate accounts. Nobody needs your login to explain a mechanic, heal a dungeon, or raid beside you.
What to Do Before Your First Raid
If you’re not level 90 yet, use the WoW leveling guide for Midnight and follow the campaign’s dungeon milestones.
Once you hit 90:
- Finish easy character upgrades already available to you.
- Use Heroic or Mythic 0 dungeons to practice your role.
- Read only the wing you can enter now.
- Join a learning group whose goal matches yours.
- Review one mistake after each pull.
Don’t wait for a fictional state called “fully ready.” Reach the entry floor, understand your job, and choose a group that expects learning.
